Why kayaking in the winter...

Many of us tried or considered trying kayaking or canoeing at some point. I hope it always brings you friendly, fun and ... warm memories.

So why would you do it in the winter?

I have tried for the first time many, many years ago. It was December 31st, quite cold outside but really amazing. It was 'crispy' and as long as you wrapped up yourself well you could be much drier than in many 'classic summer days in Scotland'.

Access to right venues could slightly more challenging in such conditions but this makes the whole experience even more adventures, isn't it?

Since moving to Scotland, I was very lucky trying winter paddling, mostly kayaking many times.
So many lochs and rivers can present you with some amazing scenery which often is better seen from water perspective.
So as long as you pick dry, frosty day, wrap yourself warm and take hot drinks and some snacks, you should be fine. Choose wisely the venue and craft suiting your skills, so you limit the risk of falling in.

Winter landscape is stunning but it can get even better seen from the water perspective!
